Mobile Screen Sizes 2013

Image
This is a quick post about the number of distinct mobile devices - a summary of the article over at  OpenSignal.com  about Android Fragmentation. The current number of distinct android devices has risen from  3,997  in 2012 to  11,868  in 2013. That's  a massive range of screen size and operating systems to consider (just from android phones!). Have a look at this simple graphic showing the different screen sizes: This graphic is interactive over at  http://opensignal.com/reports/fragmentation-2013/  The problem is that developing apps to work across this full range can be challenging, on the other hand android has a bigger global reach than iOS and potentially a lot more customers. There is no way you can test on all eleven thousand varieties!!  Is it time for HTML5 web standards as the way forward? You can download a PDF of the report here.. http://opensignal.com/reports/fragmentation-2013/fragmentation-2013.pd...
